Three-time award winner Nikola Jokic endures a 'gut-wrenching' injury to his knee.
Three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "devastating" injury to his knee while the Denver Nuggets lost 147-123 at the Miami Heat.
The star player injured himself late in the first half in an unintentional contact with team-mate Jones.
The other player stepped on the foot of Jokic, and he promptly collapsed to the floor clutching his leg.
The star, who tops the league this season in rebounds and dimes, posted a score of 21 points and eight assists in the matchup before suffering the setback.
He will undergo an MRI scan on Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury.
"Instantly, he knew something was wrong," said Nuggets head coach Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Anyone who is injured, it's difficult, particularly a player as special as him. More information will come tomorrow."
"We'll move on as a team. Obviously, at this moment, I'm more concerned about Jokic personally and the letdown of facing an event of that nature."
