Swedish Selection Announcement: Isak Named Whereas Viktor Gyokeres Excluded
The striker moved to Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon this summer
Gunners striker Viktor Gyokeres has been omitted in Graham Potter's maiden Sweden team selection, while Reds forward Alexander Isak received inclusion
Gyokeres is due to undergo more medical tests this week following concerns of a hamstring injury in the Gunners's Premier League win at the Clarets on Saturday
The 27-year-old sat out the Gunners' Champions League victory versus the Czech side on Tuesday
Alexander Isak Returns
The Liverpool striker, absent from action since 22 October because of muscle issues, was selected for World Cup qualifying matches versus the Swiss team (November 15th) plus the Slovenian side (November 18th)
Other Premier League Call-ups
- Tottenham playmaker Lucas Bergvall, who is recovering after a head knock
- Magpies wide player Anthony Elanga
These players feature in Potter's England-based players selected under former Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham boss the new Swedish coach
The New Manager's Role
The English manager took over by Sweden first on a short-term basis on 20 October, less than four weeks following he was dismissed by West Ham
Previous manager Jon Dahl Tomasson was sacked after the national team's setback to the Kosovan team in mid-October, a result which rendered automatic qualification from qualifying group impossible
Current Position
Sweden are currently last place of Group B with just one point in four matches
Should they don't manage to secure second place, they may yet be involved in the World Cup play-offs as a result of their performance in the latest UEFA competition
