Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
