Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as important members in the powerful family could assist the team enter places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the northern region in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
