Beloved Star Pat Finn, Famed For Appearances in The Middle and Friends, Dies at Age 60.

American actor Finn, who featured in popular TV shows such as "Friends", "Seinfeld" and The Middle, has passed away aged 60.

The comedic improv actor succumbed at his home in Los Angeles, California on Monday following treatment for a cancer diagnosis from 2022 onward, according to news outlets.

"He considered no one a stranger - just potential friends he didn't know yet," his family stated in a statement.

They continued that he had "lived his life fully - with zest and passion".

A Prolific Television Career

His debut TV appearance was on a show starring George Wendt in 1995, where he portrayed the brother of the main character.

He was also seen in a regular part on Murphy Brown between 1995 and 1997.

He played the part of the character Joe Mayo in "Seinfeld" in 1998, depicting a social organizer who would assign tedious tasks to his guests.

During the 90s and 2000s, he appeared as a guest star on numerous hit series, including:

  • The King of Queens
  • "Friends"
  • That '70s Show
  • House

He was most recognized for portraying the character Bill Norwood in The Middle, starring in eight seasons from 2011 to 2018.

His film credits are It's Complicated and "Santa Paws 2".

A Life in Improv

Away from his television work, Finn was deeply involved in improvisational comedy and worked as a teacher at the Colorado university, where he was a faculty member.

He was a member of a six-person improv troupe called "Beer Shark Mice".

"Pat coached, befriended and mentored countless students over the years and it would be difficult to find someone who has a bad thing to say about him," his family wrote.

In a tribute, peer actor Richard Kind noted there was "no kinder, gentler, funnier, grounded individual you could encounter".

"Always positive, making those around him better and funnier. An excellent dad and person," Kind wrote publicly.

Finn is leaves behind his wife Donna, his children, and his family.
